On July 4th the BTIA hosted its 34th Bi- Annual General Meeting at the George Price Center in the City of Belmopan. Over eighty-five BTIA members, tourism stakeholders, and special invited guests were in attendance.
The meeting recapped BTIA’s progress throughout the past six months including the Executive Director’s- John M. Burgos mid-year report. He highlighted one of BTIA’s signature marketing event- BETEX 2019. Feedback from participants allowed us to conclude that it was a resounding success with its new Roadshow format for both stakeholders and buyers who participated. Two new festivals were highlighted for the positive outcome obtained in their destination: Live Well Cayo Fest and Corozal Coconut Fest.  BTIA President, Ms. Melanie Paz, expressed the following views: “As I continue the journey enhancing our tourism sector, I must commend our Board Members, Chapters and Secretariat on their efforts and commitment to the tourism development within their perspective chapters, membership and the country as a whole”.

Keynote Speaker, Mr. Anthony Hunt- Airline and Tourism Consultant focused on the Importance of Selecting Your Target Market. He stated: “Belize as a developing destination is at a stage where stakeholders need to understand their clients and provide for the demands of the international markets.” His presentation also focused on the international targeted airlines, statistics on arrivals and the goals on keeping airlines satisfied and tips on how to provide quality services within a competitive market. He closed his presentation by sharing-“We need to focus a little less on overall tourism numbers and focus a little more on the right numbers. Quality not quantity.”
