The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) in partnership with the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) and other key tourism stakeholders hosted Belize’s only international trade exhibition, the 13th Belize Tourism Expo (BETEX) as a road show event, May 8 thru 13, 2019.

BETEX is a key marketing initiative of the BTIA Awhich provides a gateway to the world and an opportunity to partner local and international tourism professionals with the objective of promoting Belize as a great tourist destination. BETEX 2019 was hosted as a roadshow event, taking Buyers to several destinations within Belize. The roadshow format gave Buyers the opportunity to immerse themselves in various destinations throughout Belize, to meet one-on-one with Suppliers, and to savor the adventure so that they can be better prepared to market, promote and sell Belize. The international travel companies who participated as Buyers in BETEX 2019 represent several destinations including the U. S. A., Central America, Mexico, Germany, Argentina, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom.

On May 8, all registered participants were hosted to a welcome mixer in Placencia at Naia Resort & Spa where they enjoyed an entertaining evening with a Garifuna dance presentation and a buffet of cultural cuisines as they networked with Suppliers present. Twenty-five (25) participating travel companies met with forty-two (42) hoteliers, tour operators, local airline operator, and DMCs during one-on-one meetings sessions held in Placencia on May 9, San Ignacio on May 11 and San Pedro on May 12. Buyers participated in site inspections of Supplier businesses in Placencia, Hopkins, Dangriga, the Belmopan area, San Ignacio, Belize City and San Pedro. The road show format of BETEX also offered the Buyers to experience some of the attractions of Belize as they visited the Pen Cayetano Art Gallery and Gulisi Garifuna Museum in Dangriga, stopped at St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park for a quick hike and swim, and snorkeled at the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. Buyers savored a wide range of cultural dishes along their journey as well as some Belikin beers and Travellers rum. To close the event, the Buyers and Suppliers had their last bit of conversations on the beach at Banyan Bay Suites in San Pedro – sharing their memories of their journey South through North of Belize.

“We have participated in many fam trips over the past 25 years and BETEX is definitely one of the best we have experience. It is the one that has given us the best opportunity to experience a destination first hand. BETEX has definitely open our eyes and changed our perspective on Belize.” Paraiso Del Sol, David Ibarra.

“Thanks so much for all your hard work putting on BETEX. I felt it was a huge success!” Barbs Belize, Barbara Kasak

“The conference was great- but extremely busy. I had a great trip.” Condor Tours & Travel, Patricia Pritchard
