Belize Tourism Industry Association in conjunction with the Belize Tourism Board joined other tourism private sector partners at the Central American Travel Market (CATM) held at the Figali Convention Center in Panama City, Panama this past week October 18-22, 2011.
The Central American Travel Market (CATM) is a professional meeting, offering the opportunity to establish relationships between providers of Central American tourism services and wholesalers from major international markets including, Europe (priority market), Asia and Latin America among others.
This event is private sector driven organized by the Federation of Chambers of Tourism in Central America (FEDECATUR) with the support of the Tourism Boards in each country and TACA Airlines. This year’s event brought a total of 124 buyers and international press delegates to the region who were eager to establish meaningful business relationships with Central American suppliers.
This event marked Belize’s fifth year participation and the first with a newly constructed modular pavilion depicting Belize’s rich jungle and beach. The new design took the shape of the Belize map allowing buyers and press to walk through the middle with suppliers on both sides. The pavilion housed 17 Belizean private tourism sector properties plus the Belize Tourism Industry Association, Belize Tourism Board and the Belize Hotel Association.
The event was a successful undertaking for all Belizean suppliers who participated. There were three post tours, which arrived in Belize after the event, the first being a group of 11 International Press delegates and the other two being buyer groups comprised of 7 and 10 respectively. These delegates traveled the country visiting our major destinations including San Pedro, Cayo and Placencia.
BTIA President – James Scott said, “The Belize Team included a star studded cast from BHA, BTIA, BTB and many private businesses that professionally represented a wide variety of the Belize product. It was a delight to be amongst professionals representing our country with such passion and creative services.”
