Belize City, Belize – 10th May 2017.
The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) in partnership with the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) and other key tourism stakeholders hosted Belize’s only international trade exhibition, the 12th Belize Tourism Expo (BETEX) at the SCA Multipurpose Center in Belize City, May 3 thru 5, 2017.
On May 3, all registered participants were hosted to a welcome cocktail and dinner at Ayin Ha by the Belize Tourism Board. The tradeshow began with an opening ceremony and press visit on May 4th at 8:30 AM, followed by pre-scheduled meetings, throughout May 5th for all the registered participants. The two-day centralized trade exhibition provided the exclusive opportunity for over thirty (30) representatives international travel companies and agencies to network and conduct business with the forty (40) local hotels, tour operators, destination management companies and BTIA chapters represented through one-on-one meeting appointments. The international travel companies represented are based in U. S. A., Canada, Central America, Mexico France and the United Kingdom.
The international participants had the opportunity to savor the Belize experience throughout the two days as live performances and music brought to life the history of the Garifuna and Yucatec Maya and the local cuisines (rice and beans, tamales, sere, conch fritters, escabeche, peanut fudge, etc.) gave a great taste of the diverse cultures of Belize. Industry presentations by the Belize Tourism Board, Aviation Development Committee and BELTRAIDE, highlighted important facts about Belize’s tourism industry – plans for development, investment and marketing.
Eighteen (18) of the registered international participants signed up for a post tour of choice and had the opportunity to experience the destination firsthand on May 5 thru 8. The post tours featured either a dive or snorkel of the Belize Barrier Reef, a hike through the lush rainforest and to archeological sites, site visits of hotels/resorts and tour operators while learning more about the different cultures and cuisines in each destination they visit.
